Conor McGregor, the legendary UFC fighter, is putting a massive $250,000 bet behind his close friend and teammate Dillon Danis for Danis’ upcoming boxing debut against YouTube star Logan Paul next month. McGregor has said he will be helping coach Danis for the fight and is extremely confident his teammate will emerge victorious.
McGregor and Danis – Friends and Teammates
McGregor and Danis have a tight bond as both friends and teammates. The two train together and McGregor has taken Danis under his wing to mentor him in MMA and boxing. McGregor has been vocal about his role in prepping Danis for this high profile fight, saying he will be in Danis’ corner coaching him when he takes on Paul at the AO Arena in Manchester on October 14.
McGregor’s Bold Predictions
True to his outspoken style, McGregor has already made some bold claims about the Danis vs Paul fight. He stated that Paul may not even show up to the match, given that Paul has pulled out of fights at the last minute multiple times over the past few years. In response to this trash talk, Paul raised the stakes by offering a $1 million bet that he would defeat Danis. However, McGregor has yet to take Paul up on the wager.
During a chat with Mirror Fighting after their first press conference, Paul claimed that Danis had told him McGregor bet $200k on him winning. Paul taunted McGregor, saying “If he was behind Dillon he’d take my $1m bet.” He further trash talked McGregor and Danis, saying “Conor knows, bro, he doesn’t believe in his fighter.”
In a later podcast interview with Andrew Schulz on Flagrant, Paul doubled down, offering to up the bet to $2 million. He called out McGregor, saying “I know you’re going to see this clip, you’re coaching him, guiding him…F*** you, both of you are all bark, no bite.†However, again McGregor did not take the bait and raise the stakes.
McGregor Bets a Quarter Million on Danis
While McGregor has not responded to Paul’s offers to massively increase the bet, the UFC legend is still showing his firm support for his teammate by placing a $250,000 wager on Danis to win. According to reports, McGregor made it clear to Danis during a face-to-face conversation that he was betting a quarter of a million dollars on his victory. This huge vote of confidence reveals just how assured McGregor is that Danis has what it takes to defeat Paul.
Danis Favored With McGregor in His Corner
With the expertise and backing of McGregor guiding him in training and financially supporting him with a massive bet, Danis looks to be the favorite heading into the grudge match. Danis is an experienced fighter, whereas Paul is newer to boxing. Having a legendary coach like McGregor in his corner will surely benefit Danis against the less seasoned Paul. While Paul has done a lot of talking in the lead up to the fight, he’ll have to prove himself in the ring when he takes on McGregor’s protégé on October 14.
