Twitch really can’t catch a break right now. Their most popular female streamer, Amouranth has taken the plunge to Join rival streaming service Kick. Amouranth has been openly critical of Amazon-owned Twitch stating that its current business model will “never be able to achieve profitability,”.
Since moving to Kick, Amouranth has averaged a very respectable 4,000 viewers, ranking herself in the top end of Kick’s viewership, it seems that the majority of her Twitch followers have also moved to Kick with her.
Who is Amouranth?
If you aren’t sure who she is, here’s a quick outline:
- Amouranth is one of the most popular streamers on Twitch, with over 2 million followers.
- She is known for her live streams of ASMR, IRL, and hot tub content.
- Amouranth has been banned from Twitch multiple times.
- Her most recent ban was in February of this year.
Is Twitch dying?
With so many large-scale content creators leaving Twitch In favour of Kick, it’s easy to see that Twitch’s popularity is in decline, however, it’s clear that Twitch management aren’t all that concerned right now. After all, multiple companies have gone for Twitch’s crown, and all have failed – losing millions in investment. Microsoft’s Mixer and Metas Facebook Gaming all-but failed in their attempt to cut a slice of the live streaming pie.
Why Did Amouranth Join Kick?
Popular Twitch streamer Amouranth has announced that she is leaving Twitch. She cited a number of reasons for her decision, including Twitch’s business model, its inconsistent moderation policies, and its treatment of creators.
Amouranth said that she believes Twitch’s business model is unsustainable. She argued that the platform only works if it reaches YouTube-scale success, but that streaming has a significantly smaller potential market than YouTube. She also criticized Twitch for its inconsistent moderation policies, which she said have led to creators being banned without explanation.
Amouranth is not the first streamer to leave Twitch over concerns about the platform’s business model and moderation policies. In February of this year, another popular streamer, Adin Ross, was banned from Twitch for the eighth time. Ross’s ban was reportedly due to his association with far-right figures, such as Andrew Tate and Donald Trump.
Amouranth’s departure from Twitch is a sign of the growing dissatisfaction among streamers with the platform. It remains to be seen whether other streamers will follow suit, but Amouranth’s decision is a significant blow to Twitch.
