Best Macbook Neo offers in the UK – April 2026

I used to be a hardcore Windows laptop user, from HP to Dell, through to – in my opinion the best – Lenovo, but about 4 years ago I was given a Macbook Pro for work. I hated it, everything, the keyboard, MacOS. I left that job and never looked back at Macbooks again, until around 2 years ago when I bit the bullet and bought a Macbook M2 Pro for work. I bought it because of the 13 inch form factor, but I very quickly realised that it’s an incredible piece of equipment.

From the battery and the display to the keyboard, and finally “getting” MacOS, i realised why so many people fall in love with Macbooks.

The one thing that stood out? The performance. The performance of the M2 macbook, with 8gb of ram was 3x faster than my 32gb Lenovo Ryzen laptop, smoother, cooler, lighter, faster.

Why? Really, the answer is simple; The memory management of MacOS is head and shoulders above that of the Windows counterpart, and the SSD it relies on for swap when it runs out of memory? It’s blazing fast.

Now, I’ve owned a good few macbooks since, a 16gb M4 Air, an M3 Pro, and the cherry atop the cake: a 48gb, 2tb M4 Pro. It’s great, it’s incredibly fast, but the thing that really shocked me? The 8gb M2 Pro was just as efficient. Naturally, more memory is always better, but the management of memory on Mac-based devices is so efficient, that 8gb is absolutely fine for some light coding, browsing, movie-watching, and even some 1080p video editing.

The Macbook Neo is perfectly fine in 2026 and beyond

It’s crazy to think that a device with 8gb of ram is capable of standing it’s ground in 2026, but mark my works – the Neo, will carry on strong for a good 5 years. Sure, the screen isn’t as good, but it’s still retina. Sure, the keyboard isn’t backlit, but it still has that silky feel you get with premium Macs. Sure, the CPU is from a mobile phone – one of the most powerful CPUs on the mobile market.

If you’re using the Neo for the same thing I used my M2 for, it will excel, and all in a small, premium and convenient form factor.

Where to buy a Macbook Neo in the UK in 2026

If You’ve been keeping up with the news on the MacBook Neo you’ll realise very quickly that they are extremely popular. With that said, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible to find one on the shelves. What’s more important is finding the best deal, as of April 2026.

Chances are if you’re looking for a MacBook Neo you’re on a budget – and that’s okay, but what it does mean is that you have to be smart. As a student, you can get the Apple education discount to get £100 off the price of your MacBook Neo, on the Apple website.

If you’re like me and you aren’t lucky enough to be a young student, then there are definitely other options too:

  • Costco generally have the Macbook Neo 512gb floating at around £620
  • Argos have the Neo 256gb model for around £599.00
  • Like Argos, Currys have the 256gb model of the neo for around £599

Now, don’t get me wrong – you do have to pay for a Costco card, but if you buy tech semi-often, their return policy is best in class:

Should you buy a Macbook Neo?

The rule of thumb is that, if you don’t know that you need a Pro, a Neo is fine.

The MacBook Neo, based on the A18 Pro chip, is not just a budget option; it’s a statement about efficiency and performance in a small package.

Who is the Neo Perfect For?

User ProfileUse CaseRecommendation
Student/General UserEssay writing, browsing, media consumption, light photo editing.Strong Buy. The price point is unbeatable, and the performance is overkill for these tasks.
Light Developer/CoderWeb development (frontend/backend), running local servers, basic IDE use.Buy. MacOS memory management makes 8GB viable for this. Consider the 512GB model if you need more local storage for environments.
Content Creator (Casual)1080p video editing, podcast recording, basic graphic design.Buy. It will handle 1080p edits surprisingly well, thanks to the M-series architecture. You’ll likely need external storage.
Power User/Pro Creator4K video editing, large-scale software compilation, running multiple demanding VMs.Hold. While capable, you will be better served by an M3/M4 Pro or Max device with 16GB+ RAM.

The Caveats

  1. Storage: The 256GB model is very restrictive in 2026. While the SSD is incredibly fast, forcing you to constantly manage storage can be frustrating. If your budget allows, stretch for the 512GB model.
  2. Screen: As mentioned, the screen is Retina and perfectly usable, but if you’re coming from a high-end Mini-LED or OLED display, the Neo’s panel might feel slightly underwhelming.
  3. Ports: You’ll be relying on USB-C/Thunderbolt. If you need a lot of legacy ports (HDMI, standard USB-A, SD card slot), budget for a decent dongle.
