In an unexpected announcement, Rockstar Games has revealed it is now officially collaborating with the modding team behind the popular Grand Theft Auto 5 roleplay servers FiveM and RedM, Cfx.re.

FiveM hosts some of the largest GTA RP servers, still enjoying thousands of players eight years after GTA 5’s PC release. By partnering with Cfx.re, Rockstar aims to support these creative communities and help improve the services provided to developers and players.

Rockstar works with CFX.RE

This partnership marks a dramatic shift for Rockstar, who previously banned FiveM in 2015, calling it an “unauthorized alternate multiplayer service.” The mod’s founder later claimed Take-Two sent private investigators to intimidate them into shutting FiveM down.

Rockstar now seems eager to embrace what fans have done with GTA 5 mods instead of fighting against them. The announcement comes right before the reveal of GTA 6, sparking speculation that Rockstar plans built-in online roleplaying for the next game.

However, Cfx.re has downplayed this idea, telling fans not to ask about the next GTA. They reiterated the partnership focuses on improving FiveM and RedM specifically.

While daily operations won’t change for Cfx.re, Rockstar’s support will let them advance the FiveM platform and its creative community. Both teams expressed excitement for what this collaborative future holds.

This decision represents a major shift in Rockstar’s historically adversarial modding policies. It signals Rockstar is embracing fan creativity and innovations like roleplaying. This partnership could positively impact both the modding community and future Rockstar games.
