It’s a sad week for lovers of the weird, unknown and scientific, as Youtuber Tom Scott has confirmed he’s quitting YouTube after 10 years of publishing a video every week for 10 years without taking a break. In the Youtube video published by Tom on 02/01/2024, he opened by saying:

Why is Tom Scott quitting Youtube?
In the announcement video linked above, Tom Scott Announced that he’s quitting the channel, going on to explain that in the early days of his channel, when things were getting more complex, quality was higher, there was more competition, he said one thing to himself, and that his goal is to achieve 10 years on the platform. Tom Goes on to say that “That is today, as this is published”. Down to the minute, his first Youtube video was published 10 years prior, at 4pm GMT – the same time his announcement video was published too.
Tom explains that whilst he is lucky to have his job, it’s still just that, a job. He explains that he’s tired, and all that his life consists of is work, and that he needs to take a well-deserved break. To that, we say, well done Tom. Over the course of 10 years you’ve amassed over 1,000,000,000 views to your channel, produced countless incredible pieces of content, and truly deserve a break!
What is Tom Scott Doing now?
In the video Tom explains that he’s still hosting Lataral, his weekly podcast, still producing his newsletter, and that the Tom Scott Plus channel will most likely make a return at some point. For fans, this means that it isn’t the end of Tom Scott, and that we can expect to see him working on his existing projects and maybe even new stuff to come. He says that at some point there’ll most likely be new technical difficulty episodes too.
