The Best Attachments for the AK in Rust: A Practical Guide

The Assault Rifle in Rust, generally known as the AK, is a highly effective weapon. I have used it for many wipes, and it remains a consistent choice for roaming and base defense. Firing a default AK can be difficult due to the recoil pattern. Adding attachments makes it much easier to handle. In this article, I will share the attachments I prefer. I will also provide the specific weapon statistics to explain my choices.

AK Base Stats and Range

Let us review the base numbers for the Assault Rifle. These numbers come directly from my reference spreadsheet.

  • Base Damage: 50
  • Headshot Multiplier: 2.0x
  • Base DPS: 181
  • Damage Loss per 50 Meters: 6% (0.060)

The AK is a strong weapon. It has a low time to kill if your aim is accurate. The base damage of 50, combined with the 2x headshot multiplier, allows you to eliminate targets efficiently. The range falloff is also minimal. Losing only 6% damage every 50 meters makes the weapon viable at most standard engagement distances.

The Standard Attachments

I focus on attachments that manage recoil and provide tactical advantages. Here are the options I look for.

1. The Silencer

Many players avoid the Silencer because it reduces damage. This is a valid concern, but the stealth utility is significant. I primarily play solo, and the Silencer helps me avoid drawing unnecessary attention.

Here are the stats using a Silencer at 50 meters against a player with 30% bullet protection:

  • Adjusted Damage: 24.7 per hit
  • Adjusted DPS: 89.3
  • Hits to Kill: About 5
  • Time to Kill: 1.1 seconds

It takes roughly five shots to secure a kill instead of the usual three. However, concealing your position is often worth the trade-off. It prevents third-party players from easily locating you. You can find more discussions on stealth mechanics on Rustafied.

2. Holosight

The default iron sights can obstruct your view. The Holosight provides a clear reticle. It also offers a slight zoom. This is useful for tracking moving targets at medium ranges.

3. Weapon Laser Sight

The AK spray pattern requires practice. The Weapon Laser Sight reduces aim sway. It also tightens the hip-fire spread. I toggle it off when I need to stay hidden, but it is useful during active gunfights to keep my aim stable.

The Complete Gun Loadout

If you want a reliable setup for general roaming, you need a complete loadout. Here is the exact combination I recommend.

  • Primary Weapon: Assault Rifle
  • Ammo Type: Standard 5.56 Rifle Ammo. It is cost-effective and performs well. You can use High Velocity ammo for long distances, but standard is usually sufficient.
  • Sight: Holosight. A clear sight picture is essential for landing shots.
  • Barrel: Muzzle Brake. If I am not using the Silencer for stealth, the Muzzle Brake is my default choice. It significantly reduces vertical recoil. This makes the spray pattern much easier to control for standard combat.
  • Underbarrel: Weapon Laser Sight. The reduced aim sway pairs perfectly with the Muzzle Brake.
  • Utility: A good gun loadout requires support items. Always carry Medical Syringes and Bandages. I also recommend keeping a few Wooden Barricades on your hotbar for instant cover during open-field fights. You can check the Rust Wiki for the exact crafting requirements on these utility items.

This is my standard approach to the AK. It is a practical weapon when equipped correctly. Test these attachments out and see how they fit your standard playstyle.
