If you’re a gamer who plays online games, you’ve probably heard the term “GL HF”, but what does the term “GLHF” actually mean in video games? Chances are, you’ve heard this term in games like Rocket League, Overwatch, and CSGO and similarly competitive games which have text chat.

In gaming the phrase “GLHF” is simply “Good luck, have fun”. The term is commonly used in competitive games which have text chat enabled and is a friendly way of wishing you or your opponents luck in the game.

Where and when did GLHF Originate?
Many people believe the phrase good luck have fun originated in the CS days, but actually, we’ve seen it in use much longer before that. People have even rumoured that the phrase first came into use in the early Doom FPS days, which would mean the friendly term is well over 20 years old. It’s nice to see such a friendly phrase be continued as a tradition in online games, where we can see people wishing each other luck before their games.
