Call of Duty Modern Warfare II and older CoD games have in-game notifications to alert you if anything is wrong with the game or your network. One of these notifications is Packet Burst, but what is it? Don’t worry, we’ve got the answer. We’ll explain what Packet Burst in Call of Duty is right here.
What is Call of Duty Packet Burst?
You’ll see this notification appear in-game of Warzone II and Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, generally, when you’re lagging or jumping around the map. Packet Burst is quite a general term which means the packets that your console sends to your router, to send to the Call of Duty servers do not arrive in full-form. Packet burst could mean that your packets are not arriving at all, or if they are, they’re not fully-formed.
What Causes Packet Burst?
As with many network-based problems, Call of Duty Packet Burst is no different in the sense that it could be a problem with one, or many things. Below is list of the main causing factors of packet burst in gaming:
- Your network. Your WiFi could be at fault. Whether your console has poor signal to the router, or your ISP is down, your network is unable to successfully fire packets at the Call of Duty server. Generally speaking, this is the least common reason for packet loss providing that your internet connection is stable. Many things in your home can lead to poor signal to your console, however, such as the use of kitchen appliances, or being through multiple walls to your router. Generally speaking, using a cat-5 USB cable will eliminate all packet loss issues within your home.
- Call of Duty Servers. Generally the most common reason for packet loss in Modern Warfare II, the CoD servers are struggling to keep up with the quantity of data that is being sent to them. This can also be exacerbated If you are a great distance to the server that is hosting your lobby. At peak times, you may find that the packet burst notification is common, even if you aren’t seeing any physical lag.
- Console servers. Some consoles first send all of your packets to their servers, and then onto the destination server. This is generally a very uncommon reason for packet burst, as Playstation & XBOX servers are extremely robust.
How to Solve Call of Duty Packet Burst
Generally speaking, there may not be all that much that you can do in order to resolve packet burst in your lobby, however, the best thing you can do is reset your router, and hard restart your console.
If you’re a little more tech-savvy, you can look to use port-forwarding on your console in order to specify an optimal route for your consoles data transfer to remote servers.
