In a recent announcement, YouTube unveiled significant updates to its YouTube Partner Program (YPP) that are designed to help creators forge deeper connections with their fans, grow their channels, and start earning revenue at an earlier stage. These updates include earlier access to features such as channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Thanks, and the ability to promote products via YouTube Shopping through a new level of YPP.
Rollout Plan
The new level of YPP is initially being rolled out to creators in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea. Plans are in motion to expand the program to all countries where YPP is available, with updates to be provided through subscription to the announcement post.
New Eligibility Requirements
To gain access to these features, creators must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- 500 subscribers
- 3 public uploads in the last 90 days
- No active Community Guidelines strikes
- And either 3,000 valid public watch hours in the past year or 3 million valid public Shorts views in the last 90 days
Once these requirements are met, creators can apply to YPP. Applications will be reviewed to ensure that the channel adheres to all policies and guidelines. It should be noted that channels with artificially inflated engagement won’t be approved for YPP.
Benefits of Early Access to YPP
The benefits of this early access to YPP include access to fan funding features such as channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, Super Thanks, and the ability to promote your own products with YouTube Shopping. Creators also get access to resources specifically for YPP creators like YouTube Creator Support.
While these features unlock at these new lower requirements, some features may have additional eligibility criteria, so creators are encouraged to check linked Help Center articles for further details.
Access to Ad Revenue Sharing
As creators’ channels grow and they meet the existing YPP eligibility requirements, they will unlock the ability to earn revenue sharing from ads and YouTube Premium subscriptions without having to go through the full YPP application process again. The existing eligibility requirements to unlock revenue sharing on videos are:
- 1,000 subscribers
- And either 4,000 valid public watch hours in the past year or 10 million valid public Shorts views in the last 90 days
What if You’re Not in the Initial Rollout Countries?
For creators not based in the initial rollout countries (the U.S., U.K., Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea), YouTube has advised patience as it works on expanding these new lower eligibility requirements for YPP to more countries. Creators can sign up for email updates, subscribe to the announcement post for updates, or track their progress toward the new requirements in the Earn tab in Studio on both desktop and mobile devices.
No Changes for Existing YPP Members
If you’re already a part of YPP, rest assured that there are no changes for you. You already have access to all the benefits discussed, as the goal of these changes is to help new creators start earning earlier in their YouTube journey.
YouTube’s updates to its Partner Program reflect its commitment to fostering a vibrant creator ecosystem, encouraging new creators, and providing them with the tools they need to succeed and monetize their content.
