With all the exciting news coming about Call of Duty MWIII (MW3), one of the hottest talking points right now is the MWIII maps that are set to feature in the base launch of the game.
It’s been all but confirmed that every single map in the original Call of Duty MW2 (MWII) are set to be remastered and released in the base release of Call of Duty MWIII. Once you total every map in the original MW2, it indicates that at launch MWIII will have 16 maps, all of which are remastered MW2 maps.
How do fans feel about MWIII maps?
Once the news was leaked, the fan response was divisive. A lot of CoD players are excited to see the return of some fan-favourite maps – knowing that Call of Duty MW2 has some of the best maps in the history of the franchise – think Afgan, Favela, Highrise, Estate, and Terminal – it’s clear to see why they are excited.
In recent years, Multiplayer CoD maps have taken a bit of a downward turn in regards to popularity, players blame this on the size of the maps, and the fact that they have branched away from their previously consistent map design, in that maps have three main passage ways to encourage intelligent & fast-paced play. Newer Call of Duty titles have focused on larger maps with more players, and no matter how hard they try, it’s not hit quite the same.
Many fans are disappointed in Sledgehammer Games, labelling the remasters as lazy, un-innovative and greedy.
It’s been made very clear that Call of Duty MWIII is to use the game engine as MWII, and that the general feel of the game from a visual perspective has not changed, this has only reinforced the beliefs of those fans.
What maps are in MWIII?
Now that we know all base maps are MW2 remasters, we can quite confidently assume that the launch list of maps are as follows:
Afghan
Afghan is a smaller map that is based around the crash site of a US military aeroplane. This map promotes fast-paced gameplay.
Derail
One of the larger maps in MWII, derail is set in a snowy biome, great for sniping and larger capture the objective game modes.
Estate
A fan favourite, Estate is based in a woody area that is dominated by the cabin that oversees the forest.
Favela
Favela boasts great CQC and opens doors to sniping on the larger area of the map. Favela was loved by all, but hated just as equally.
Highrise
Rooftop skyscraper – Loved by all in MWII.
Invasion
City in the desert. Classic street to street firefights.
Karachi
Ravaged desert town. Tactical street fights abound.
Quarry
Medium-sized quarry. Intense Capture the Flag matches for black ops soldiers.
Rundown
Village in Brazil. Fight from all angles – made a lot of people angry.
Rust
Tiny desert sandstorm. Fast-paced action on a small map. All Black Ops III MP maps have the classic 3-lane design.
Scrapyard
Small airplane graveyard. Great for any number of players.
Skidrow
Urban city fighting. In and out of apartments close range engagements, just like in the COD: Ghosts multiplayer map.
Sub Base
Snowy submarine base. Great vertical gameplay.
Terminal
