Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will feature a new Zombies mode developed by Treyarch in collaboration with Sledgehammer Games. MWIII Zombies will be available at launch on November 10, 2023.
Lore
The story of Modern Warfare: Zombies is set in the Modern Warfare universe and follows a team of multi-national Operators. They have been tasked with assisting the members of Task Force 141 against undead hordes brought on by a second major enemy threat.
The mode begins with a squad of Operators raiding an unknown location. They discover four heavily decomposed bodies seated around a table with a strange device in the middle. One of the assailants, Viktor Zakhaev, grabs one of the vials from the device. He then reveals himself to be the one behind the outbreak.
Zakhaev’s forces are quickly outnumbered by the military police. So, he resorts to throwing one of the vials toward his attackers before retreating into his armored vehicle. The vial shatters, releasing a cloying purple fog that spreads rapidly through the streets. It then transforms both the living and the fallen into bloodthirsty zombies.
The scene then cuts to a helicopter descending onto the area of the outbreak, where SSO Kate Laswell and Sergeant Johnny “Soap” MacTavish brief an unseen Operator on the mission at hand, codenamed Operation Deadbolt. Accompanying the team is Captain Sergei Ravenov, an Operator and mission specialist with experience in this kind of incursion. Leading them on the ground is one SSO Greene.
Terminus Outcomes
In addition to the undead, players will also face off against Terminus Outcomes, a private military company hired by Zakhaev as muscle. Led by one Jack Fletcher, Terminus Outcomes makes no judgment on their clients’ motives or ethics. If the money is good, the job is on.
Operation Deadbolt
Operation Deadbolt is an emergency contingency plan put into action by the CIA in the aftermath of the outbreak events witnessed by Requiem operatives during the events of the Cold War.
SSO Laswell is given the job of prepping the plan, placing SSO Selma Greene on the ground as the de facto commander of the operation. When the team arrives at the Exclusion Zone alongside Soap and Ravenov, a few weeks have elapsed since the events shown in the first part of the trailer.
Also, as a member of the team, your Operator joins other multi-national Operators to counter the threat posed by the Exclusion Zone, all running under the basic tenants of Operation Deadbolt: “Nothing gets in, nothing gets out.”
Modern Warfare: Zombies Features
Modern Warfare: Zombies will be an open-world, player-versus-environment (PvE) extraction survival experience shared with other squads. Players will be able to explore different regions that escalate in difficulty. They will face off against a variety of unique elements, challenges, and cinematics.
The mode will also feature core Zombies features such as:
- A variety of weapons and equipment to unlock and upgrade
- Perks and abilities to customize your playstyle
- A progression system to track your progress and earn rewards
- Co-operative gameplay with support for up to four players
