The latest CODBlog has revealed new details about the upcoming MWIII campaign. It also revealed the dates for the Call of Duty: Next event and the Modern Warfare III multiplayer beta.
Campaign Details
The Modern Warfare III campaign will be a direct sequel to the events of Modern Warfare II. It will feature a seamless integration of missions built around cinematic moments, and brand-new Open Combat Missions. These are designed to give the player freedom to approach the action in a variety of different ways.
Open Combat Missions
Additionally, new missions are disclosed. Open Combat Missions are a new type of mission that will be introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. These missions will give players more freedom to approach the action in a variety of different ways.
In an Open Combat Mission, players will be able to choose their own path through the level. They can select their own weapons and equipment, and even use stealth or brute force to achieve their objectives. This will allow players to play the game in a way that suits their own playstyle.

For example, one player might choose to sneak through the shadows, taking out enemies one by one. Another player might prefer to go in guns blazing, using heavy weapons and explosives to clear the way. And still another player might try to find a balance between stealth and firepower.
The choice is up to the player.
Open Combat Missions will also feature a variety of different objectives. Players might be tasked with rescuing hostages, destroying enemy equipment, or simply eliminating all enemy forces. The objectives will vary from mission to mission, keeping players on their toes.

Open Combat Missions are a significant departure from the traditional Call of Duty mission structure. They give players more freedom and control over the way they play the game. This is a welcome change, and it will be interesting to see how players take advantage of these new possibilities.

Here are some of the potential benefits of Open Combat Missions:
- They can provide players with a more immersive and challenging experience.
- They can allow players to express their own creativity and playstyle.
- They can make the game more replayable.
So, only time will tell how successful Open Combat Missions will be. However, they have the potential to revolutionize the way Call of Duty games are played.
Campaign Mission – Operation 627
Aside from this, revealed in the campaign reveal at Gamescom and available to watch on YouTube here was a new Campaign Mission. The first mission in the campaign is “Operation 627”. It is a traditional cinematic experience that introduces the next chapter of the Modern Warfare universe. In this prelude, an elite PMC fireteam – “Alpha Team†– invades a stone fortress in Verdansk.
The mission begins with Alpha Team infiltrating the Zordaya Prison Complex via amphibious tactics. They use water suits, oxygen tanks, and diver propulsion vehicles to reach the complex’s base.
After ascending the battlements’ slope, the team follows the mission’s optimal plans. They use suppressed weapons, night-vision goggles (NVGs), and stealth tactics to move along the wallwalk until they find a breach in its western section.
We also see parachuting reinforcements, Alpha Team moves into position down off the battlements and onto the courtyard level, confirming visual on an HVT entering a prisoner transfer helicopter… But it’s not “our guy.â€Â
Because “our guy†is deeper in the complex, Alpha Team calls in a distraction play, using an explosive outside the facility to get the first strike from behind on enemy forces.
Quickly losing its low profile, Alpha Team uses a smokescreen for cover before finding a hatch in the courtyard, which they then use to descend further into the complex via its intricate tunnel network.
Fortunately, they land right near the heart of the panopticon, the gulag’s proper prison with a central security observatory tower, which Alpha Team sees moments before they radio in for total darkness.
While they have only muzzle flashes, lasers, and their NVGs as their only sources for light, Alpha Team methodically rappels down the interior spine of the prison, instigating a successful prison riot by downing several prison guards who desperately try to re-establish order.
The cell gates unlock, and the inmates barge out and into the curved corridors, intent on revenge, as klaxons blare and confusion reigns. Alpha Team eventually reaches the prison’s lowest level.
As locked inmates cheer and clank their cell bars in support, Alpha Team eliminates several more guards and reaches the sub-level to “get our guy.†A sealed interior door is breached with explosives…
And the rest… Well, you’ll have to wait until Campaign Early Access for that part of the story.
