Who is Making COD 2023?
Sledgehammer Games are leading the development of COD 2023. Formed in 2009 by former Visceral Games developers. Sledgehammer’s first COD game was Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, which was released in 2014. Since then, they’ve had a big part in almost every release in the series, either playing the role of supporting studio, or leading active development.
Infinity Ward are working in close partnership with Sledgehammer, both reportedly working mainly on Multiplayer & Campaign, While Treyarch take lead development of the game’s new Zombies mode, which is the first Zombies mode to feature in the Modern Warfare universe, ever.
When does COD 2023 come out?
It has been announced that Call of Duty 2023 will release on the 10th of November 2023, and is now available to pre-order. The open beta of COD 2023 took place on October 12 for PS players, and October 14 for everyone else.
The beta of COD 2023 received overwhelmingly positive feedback from players of the series, thanks to the approach from Sledgehammer games which has brought back some sorely missed features:
- Red dots now appear on the mini-map when someone shoots an unsuppressed weapon
- Slide-cancelling has returned to the game
- Sprint speed has been increased, with better climbing and jumping for fast movement
It was also noted that hit-success map Rebirth Island and Fortunes Keep are returning, which fans have been begging for since the release of Warzone 2 (now named Warzone)

What is COD 2023?
Call of Duty 2023 is titled “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III”, the game is a callback to the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, seeing the return of all of the classic maps, and new renditions of the guns that were found in the original game, such as the ACR that is now known as the MCW.
It’s worth noting that this is the first Modern Warfare game that Sledgehammer games have developed, previously the responsibility of the MW series fell with Infinity Ward as the lead developer of the series.
Treyarch is handling the development of the 2024 instalment of COD, which is rumoured to release around November 2024.
Movement is back in COD 2023
Call of Duty MWII saw the removal of all of the movement physics that players loved from Cold War. Dearly missed, the majority of fast-paced movement physics are now set to return, including slide-cancelling, reload-cancelling, faster sprint speeds and more – the movement has been taken from 0-to-60 by Sledgehammer games, and fans are in love with the current state of play.
Stat tracking in COD 2023
As you’ll know, stat tracking has been unavailable since the release of MWII, which means you cannot track your stats outside of the game. We’ve heard that the trackers are coming back, learn more here.
